SMPA Summer music camp scholarship:
Samantha Sirovinia (class of 2010)
for UW Madison Camp

Attention Class of 2009 Seniors:
Ask your music director for the scholarship forms in December, 2008.

Summer Music Camp Scholarships
FOUR SMPA Summer Music Camp Scholarships ($150 each) are available for SMHS Music students.
See your director now to talk camp. Why go to Summer Music Camp?   Camps are typically accelerated music classes held on college campuses - you can get a feel for campus life, meet other musically driven teens and professors from other parts of the state, (get away from the family for a week or two) AND learn new techniques for the coming year, so you can out SHINE the competition!

Friday Night Rockets Football
Concession Stand
THANK YOU!
to all the parents who helped with the stand.
We raised over $6,000 that will directly
benefit our music programs.
YOU ROCK!

Help is needed to start organizing the concession stand
for Fall of 2008 - contact us if you're interested.
This is THE SM Music Parent's biggest fundraiser
that sets the budget for scholarships,
instrument purchases and other SMPA
projects for the school year.
Any time is appreciated  :-)

What does the SMPA do?  [more info]

  • We staff the Ye Olde Christmas Feaste - a SMHS tradition for over a quarter century [info]
  • We SAVE THE MUSIC! We help to keep music alive in the South Milwaukee School District.
  • Travel! Help chaperone various events, music tours and trips (Orlando in 2007!)
  • Purchase additional equipment and supplies for SMHS, SMMS and the SM Performing Arts Center.
  • Support major music events in our District.
  • We are the music "Booster Club" - The majority of our musical children have chosen Music as their "sport".  Our District even offers students a chance to earn a Letter in Music (just like a sport).
  • We encourage networking and collaboration among the parents and music teaching staff.
  • We are a resource for your child's music needs (inside "info" on private teachers, sheet music, camps, musical instruments, etc.)
  • We support Artist-in-Residence Programs (Dallas Brass in 2006).
  • Provide volunteer support for annual music competitions
  • Provide scholarships to seniors and summer music camp workshops.
  • How can YOU help? [info here]

If you have a musical child in the SM School District, You Are Already A Member of SMPA!  Meetings are open to all.

The SMPA parents support the positive efforts of their children by nurturing the school music program and provide opportunities in music for all students.

South Milwaukee Music Parents Association has been supporting the academic music program of South Milwaukee for 20 years.  We provide hands-on support, financial support as well as providing a voice to our School Board and Administration for the needs of our Music Department.

Over the years, funds raised through various projects and particularly through the dedication of music parents who operate the Football Concession stand, have allowed SMPA to provide much needed financial support to the ACADEMIC Music Program in our High School.  Pianos and musical instruments have been purchased to benefit the entire music department.

.

HOW CAN I HELP?

  • Does your employer have a charitable foundation? Ask your HR Department to find out.  If so, we'll work with you to navigate the paperwork.  Northwestern Mutual has a great program.
  • Eagle eyes wanted  - keep your eyes open to inform SMPA about arts grants (i.e., Target, Dollar General, Lowes, etc).
  • Do you have an instrument in your house (or parent's house) gathering dust? Pass on the music!  Donate a gently used musical instrument to our school [info here]
  • Are you a business owner?  We love sponsors and can offer many affordable advertising opportunities.
  • Donate one hour of your time to help at an SMPA fundraiser. One hour truly can make a difference!
  • Unique fundraising ideas wanted - do you think outside the "Box"? The box of candy?  We're looking for fundraiser ideas beyond candy, pizza, and home party products.  We value our volunteers time, fundraisers must have a profit margin of 50% or more.
  • Even if you have short windows of time, everyone is welcome to participate.
